Course Information

This virtual delivery of the Mental Health First Aid course. Please join in for a full day (8:30am- 4:00pm) of interactive activities to develop hands-on skills and approaches to assist people in need. This course will take place in a virtual classroom and no prior experience using an online classroom is necessary. Register direct https://www.commresponse.com/mhfa

Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

  • Talk about declines in their mental well-being
  • Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
  • Reach out to these supports
  • Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
  • Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

Successful participants will achieve a Mental Health First Aid certificate from the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Prior to the the full day virtual course participants must complete the self-directed module (Module 1) that focuses on the information and strategies that participants will discuss and practice throughout the virtual classroom modules (Modules 2 and 3). Course participants are required to complete Module 1 before participating in Module 2 and 3.

Upon registration, participants will receive access to the “MHFA Participant Reference Guide” that outlines MHFA actions for developing mental health and substance use problems, and mental health and substance use crises.

Please note that completion of a self-directed component is required prior to attending the virtual classroom modules. Participants can expect to spend appx. 2 hours completing this portion of the program, and must submit proof of completion prior to the start time of the virtual classroom module.

Cancellation Policy:

Should the course be cancelled; advance notice and alternative dates will be provided or a full refund will be made.

If a participant cancels their registration the refunded amount will depend on when we are notified:

  • 45 or more days prior to course date: Full refund
  • 30-44 days prior to course date: 50% refund
  • Less than 30 days prior to course date: Non-refundable

If a participant does not complete Module 1 of the course by the specified deadline, then that participant is not eligible for a refund and their registration is non-transferrable.
