Course Information

Are you passionate about mental health and want to make a meaningful difference in your workplace or community? The Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) Facilitator Certification Training is your opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge needed to teach others how to foster psychological safety and integrate PHS practices within organizations. As a certified facilitator, you’ll be equipped to deliver courses such as PHS Introduction and Integrating PHS in the Workplace, helping individuals and teams create healthier, more supportive environments. If you’re ready to lead impactful training and promote psychological well-being, this program is for you!

Course Overview:

  • Training Duration: Prior to the Facilitator Certification Training (FCT) start date, applicants must complete Introduction to Psychological Health and Safety (PHS) and Integrating PHS in the Workplace, which is included in the price of the FCT. Applicants must complete these two prerequisite courses within the 12 months of the FCT.

The FCT training spans 4 consecutive days. Course fees include registration for the prerequisite courses. Full attendance is mandatory for each session. Participants who miss more than 30 minutes of any training day will not be eligible for certification.

Please note pilot sessions are not applicable as pre-requisite courses.

Registration & Enrollment:

  • Application Process: Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee your spot in the course. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an email to finalize your registration. Your place will only be confirmed once payment has been received.
  • Approval Validity: Approval for participation is valid for 12 months. After this period, applicants must submit a new application to be considered for the training.

Eligibility Criteria:

To apply for the Facilitator Certification Training, you must demonstrate that you meet the following criteria.

  • Demonstrated success (paid or volunteer) with facilitating group discussions, training, and/or giving presentations to groups of 8 or more
  • Knowledge of the range of mental health and PHS-related services
  • Enthusiasm to reduce stigma/discrimination associated with mental illness and improve workplace mental health
  • Successful completion or commitment to complete Opening Minds Integrating Psychological Health and Safety into the Workplace course
  • Familiar with the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Familiarity with Psychological Health and Safety practices
  • Familiar with Health and Safety management systems and how they are used within workplaces
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as PowerPoint and Excel, and must have an email address, strong internet connection, and access to a computer.
  • Knowledge of delivery platforms such as Zoom or MS Teams
  • Training/facilitation on topics related to workplace mental health (Asset)

Specifications

FCT Registration and Information

Please note that applying does not save a space in the desired course; a space is only confirmed when payment has been received. The Facilitator Certification Training is conducted over four consecutive days, Monday to Thursday. You must be present for the entire duration of the training. You will be required to watch a 2-hour recorded webinar following the training to go over the logistics of course delivery before receiving your facilitator certification.

The course fee is $3,500 (payable upon acceptance into the course). Should you be unsuccessful in becoming a Facilitator, you will not be able to keep the materials.

Acknowledgments

  • You understand that you must deliver a minimum of two courses per year to maintain your certification.
  • You understand that a course cannot be delivered to a group of less than 8 participants and a maximum of 15 (virtual) or 25 (face-to-face).
  • You understand that you will be required to pay a participant fee for each participant who attends a course.
  • You have reviewed the Facilitator Agreement and understand the requirements for being a facilitator.

 

Pre-course work

Two weeks before the first day of the course, you will receive an email with a link to complete an self-led module; the module must be completed 72 hours before the course.

Homework

There is required reading and homework after attending the virtual session.

You can expect to spend 2-4 hours each evening on coursework:

  • Session 2 Knowledge Check – Monday
  • Session 3 Knowledge Check – Tuesday
  • Session 4 Knowledge Check – Wednesday

AV Requirements and Participation 

Each participant must have access to their own computer with a microphone and webcam.  For learner safety, cameras must remain on for most of the session. To qualify as a participant, you must be logged into Zoom from a computer and participate from said device at all times.

For the safety of our learners, we do not allow participation while driving or riding motorized vehicles and/or operating heavy machinery.

Please dedicate the time/space for this course and make the necessary work-life arrangements to do so. This may include:

  • Blocking off calendars to avoid double bookings.
  • Making alternate arrangements for after-school pickups.
  • Ensuring your workplace duties are assigned to another party.
  • Dedicating a space and/or a desk for learning.

Course Conduct and Terms & Conditions 

If a participant is disruptive, disrespectful, rude, and otherwise negatively contributes to the unfolding of the course (i.e. inappropriate language) in any way, the facilitator and the moderator have the right to remove the participant from the course.

You will be formally assessed on your mental health knowledge and facilitation skills when you present a portion of the PHS course on the Thursday of your training week.

Cancellation Policy

Any amounts paid are non-refundable if cancellation occurs less than 30 days prior to the registered course. Otherwise, a full refund, less a 25% administration fee, will be provided for cancellations received in writing. Registration is non-transferable.
