Course Information

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a nationally recognized, evidence-based training program designed to improve participants’ mental health literacy and equip them with the skills to recognize, respond to, and assist individuals experiencing mental health issues or crises. Much like traditional first aid, MHFA is the initial help provided until professional support can be obtained or the crisis is resolved.

Participants will:

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, substance use, and psychosis.
  • Provide immediate and appropriate support to individuals in crisis.
  • Use the MHFA Action Plan to offer help in a respectful, non-judgmental way.
  • Increase personal awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health.
  • Maintain their own well-being while supporting others.
