Designed to be accessible and applicable across many settings, Essentials offers a strong foundation in Mental Health First Aid principles without formal assessment or certification, making it an ideal option for individuals, teams, or communities seeking meaningful, time-efficient training.

Course Format:

The Essentials course is an immersive, 1-day (6-hour) program designed for applied learning. Through interactive discussions and scenario-based activities, participants explore how to recognize emerging signs of mental health issues and provide effective support in both everyday and crisis situations.

Training introduces the evidence-based ALGES framework:

  • Approach the person, assess and assist with any crisis

  • Listen and communicate non-judgmentally

  • Give reassurance and information

  • Encourage professional and other supports

  • Support self-care for both the person and yourself
