about workplace peer support training
What Is Peer Support Training?
Peer support training helps employees respond more effectively when they notice a colleague experiencing a change in mental well-being.
The goal is not to turn employees into counsellors.
The goal is to give people practical skills for everyday workplace situations.
Employees learn how to:
- Notice changes in behaviour, communication, performance, or social connection
- Start respectful conversations about mental health
- Listen without judgment
- Reduce stigma around mental illness
- Maintain appropriate workplace boundaries
- Encourage colleagues to connect with available support
What organizations say
โWhen we brought our proposed mental health strategy to the leadership team, it wasn't difficult to get buy-in. There was an honest understanding and interest to support our team members, and even greater enthusiasm when we presented the long-term return on investment.โ
โIt was really beneficial to work with an organization who has credibility in the space, which the Mental Health Commission obviously does. There's many reasons why IHSA wanted to go with the Mental Health Commission and customize the program.โ
